Brief for ethnographic study
Imagine a week when all of the decisions you make are out of your control …
Thank you for agreeing to participate in this social experiment. All together there are 10 of you (one group of five in Brighton, one group of five in London) involved.
Between Monday 29th October and Sunday 4th November you will be paid for keeping a video diary, uploading thoughts, pictures and videos onto a blog (that will be set up by Tim Gardner and Fraser Millward from The Lounge).
Your tasks will vary however there will be a set requirement of you each day. You will be required to upload a minimum of 4 photos per day, write a minimum of 200 words in your blog and record minimum 2 mins of video per day. You will then need to upload this video on to YouTube and send the link to Alfred.tong@theloungegroup.com. You will also be required to keep ALL the videos on the camera you have been provided with. These will be collected in at the end of your diary so you MUST NOT DELETE ANY OF THE VIDEOS FROM THE CAMERA.
PAY
You will be paid £100 for your input. The more content you provide us with, the better. In fact, for the four of you that give us the most (and the most interesting stuff) there will be an extra £50 each. Tim and Fraser will be in regular contact to make sure that all is well. Please let us know as soon as possible if you have any technical issues so that we can sort them out.
N.B. It is vital that you complete your tasks when we ask you to do them, or the whole project will fall apart. Your cash will depend on it!
But bear with us, we promise it will be fun and unlike anything you have ever been asked to do before!
Task 1
Sunday 28 October
Upload onto your blog a short video introducing yourself and covering the following topics:
Name
Age
Occupation/or whatever you are studying
What your interests are including favourite bands, clubs, clothes, designers, artists, and anything else that you are passionate about.
Dreams and ambitions
Who/what do you normally turn to when you want advice about something (anything at all)?
How much do you trust what you see/read on the internet?
What is the best thing you have found on the internet recently, something that you have passed on to one of your mates?
Can you also answer the following question in as much detail as possible:
‘What do you think of the idea of someone, who you don’t even know, making all of your decisions for you?’
N.B. You must do this on Sunday in order that everyone else in the groups can see your blogs on Monday morning. Again this is vital to the success of the project.
That will be all for now. You will receive your next set of instructions in your inbox on Monday at 9.30am. Please make sure you read these instructions carefully before you go to college or work. It should take no longer than five minutes.
Please send an email to Tim (Tim.Gardner@theloungegroup.com) that you have read the email and understood it. We will sort out any problems or concerns asap.
